'IN'SIGHT' (Inner Sight), unifies pictorially
the two major activities of the company's business; diagnostic imaging
and life sciences. To represent how Amersham's products enable the
understanding of 'inner space', 'IN'SIGHT' has been designed as
two images in one. The first is drawn on a silk surface, back mounted
on a light box measuring 2.4 x 2m. The lighting is faded in and
out, giving the effect of looking through the skin into the inner
most unseen workings of our bodies.
The back image is divided into two areas showing
the two sides of the company working together within an imagined
cosmos. Imaging is represented as the human figure made up of separate
images of tissues, bones and organs. Amersham Pharmacia Biotech
is represented in the details of the cosmos surrounding the human
figure, in the palm and on the fingertips of the hand and around
the nipple of the woman's breast. Both sexes are depicted (one drawn
and the other using a body print of the artist) to describe particular
treatments and tests that are gender specific.
Research for this piece of work was conducted
at the company's facilities and the Science Museum in London. Other
notable influences are from drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, Michaelangelo,
Gray's Anatomy and images of space from the Hubble Telescope.
