This report covers two years - 2000 and 2001 - showing progress
since the publication of our Health, Safety and Environment Review
2000, and is our first report to include group-wide data. We provide
data for previous years where available.
We report on a two yearly cycle and will publish our next report
in 2004.
Note on data accuracy
Data included in the report cover the areas of our business which
have the most significant impacts. The environment data include
our main manufacturing and R&D sites, our North American pharmacies
and our regional offices. As we develop our data collection system,
we will work to include other areas of the business in the report
such as our small manufacturing / R&D sites and our sales and marketing
offices.
We have included wholly owned businesses and joint ventures in
which Amersham has 50% ownership or more. We include new sites /
businesses in the data after a full year of ownership. Sites / businesses
that we sell or close are removed from the baseline.
We strive to provide reliable data but while our systems are being
developed some data are estimated. Health and safety data are recorded
on a quarterly basis. Environmental data are collected on an annual
basis. Much of the data, particularly for radioactivity, are required
by regulation and are in the public domain.
In some countries, for example Norway, we are required by legislation
to publish a site level report on health, safety and the environment.
These reports will be made available on our website shortly.
