Amersham is a world leader in medical diagnostics and in life sciences. We employ 9,500 people around the world. Our shares are traded on the London, New York and Oslo stock exchanges (AHM), and we are listed on the FTSE Index of Britain’s 100 largest companies.

Our company was formed in 1997 from the businesses of Amersham International (UK), Pharmacia Biotech (Sweden) and Nycomed (Norway). In 2001 the company changed its name to Amersham plc and our businesses became Amersham Biosciences and Amersham Health. Together we combine skills in understanding genetic predisposition and the molecular basis of disease, with those for screening for disease.

Amersham Biosciences develops integrated systems and solutions used for research into genes and proteins and their role in the causes of disease; drug discovery; and the development and manufacture of pharmaceuticals.

Amersham Health provides pharmaceuticals used for early, accurate diagnosis of heart disease, circulatory disorders, lung disease, diseases of the brain and cancer. It also provides radiotherapy products for the treatment of cancer.

We have a long-standing commitment to research and development and a strong track record of innovation. In 2001 we invested over £170 million in R&D.
